Canary Resources Inc - Home

Canary Resources Inc. is a coalbed methane company which is developing leased acreages in the Forest City Basin in Kansas and Missouri. Our objective is to build through acquisition and development a reserve-rich, cash flow secure, well-managed, mid-sized gas company.

The origin of our name: At one time, coal miners took canaries into the mines as a safety precaution. Methane gas is almost always found in coal mines and, when combined with coal dust, may cause an explosion. Methane is odorless, tasteless, and colorless, and therefore difficult for miners to detect. A canary needs only a small amount of methane in its system before toxic levels are reached. More sensitive and susceptible to methane than humans, the canary would be overcome by low levels of the gas, die, and by its death alert the miners to dangerous levels of methane. Technological devices have replaced the canary in today's coal mines.
